A return to simplicity (mostly)

Frequent visitors may notice I've redecorated a little bit around here. I wasn't feeling very satisfied with the theme I had going on, and was feeling substantial amounts of envy toward the frankly stunning websites that I see some people on Bear and beyond making from scratch. I don't have a particularly strong eye for design, nor sufficient enough time that I can spend hacking away at CSS, JS, and HTML to craft a beautiful page.

So I decided to switch (with a couple of small tweaks) to using one of the basic themes offered by Bear. It's clean and simple, and I think far more readable than the half-baked colourscheme I was working with previously. There's something surprisingly freeing about knowing that I have an almost entirely default setup now, and am not risking things going wrong unexpectedly. There's a small degree of resignation to it, but it's tinged with self-forgiveness. I still know I'm a technical person, and a creative one. Just that my creativity and my technicality don't veer into making websites look good. And that's fine by me. I don't think it's something I particularly feel a need to be good at any longer.

I took the opportunity to rework a couple of things on the site as well. It was pointed out to me that there was no good reason to put /slashes/ between my domain and my pages, and I agree. I don't recall my rationale for that any more, so away it went! My guestbook was receiving an absolute ton of crypto spam, so I've canned that too. Apologies to those who'd left sincerely lovely messages! I redid my home page slightly, opting for a real picture of me instead of the cartoon. And I suppose I should say I couldn't resist a little bit of CSS witchery, over on my /discs page. Now instead of a flat list of images and text, the blurb I have written about each entry is on the back of the image. Just tap to flip! Neat, huh?
