Present
Music
Despite not being in any bands at present, I am still actively playing, writing, and learning music. I have slowly (pronounced: glacially) been writing a metal album drawing on a whole bunch of different influences. It's intended to be a way to work out the feelings I have had and continue to have about my transition, and as a sort of monument for my inner child, who took a long time to realise who she is. That album (whenever it should arrive) and anything else I write and release, is available over at my bandcamp page.
RPGs
Dungeons and Dragons
I am currently working on an expansive D&D campaign for my small group. One day I'd love to be so confident in something that I've written that I could publish it, and maybe that'll be this campaign! The setting is a world in which magic has been outlawed, and the players are members of a travelling troupe of performers and entertainers. The idea is that we're going to explore themes of queer identity (magic use) in a world that is seeming to grow ever more hostile towards them. It should be fun!
Koriko: A Magical Year
I am playing through Koriko in spare moments, and having a lovely time with it. My intention is to make my witch's diary and letters available as a website upon completion, so hopefully watch out for more!
This Website
This website is a creative outlet like the others I describe, and is currently the one getting the most time. I guess that's because it's the easiest one to just plug away at for a little while while I'm at my desk and then put down again. I'm working on a major redesign (yes I know), that I'm slowly throwing the code together for. There are also several ongoing series of blogs that I am still drafting and scheduling: Musings on Coming Out, Alphabet Anecdotes, and Rules for Living.
Past
Ey Up Maiden
I was the Dave Murray for Yorkshire-based Iron Maiden tribute Ey Up Maiden for around eight years. The band are still going strong, and if you're ever in Yorkshire and able to see them in the wild, I highly recommend it! I grew up learning to play Iron Maiden songs on the guitar, before most anything else hit my radar, and being in this band was like a high-five to my teenage self.
Minimalist Book Club
This was an (overly) ambitious project to try and do a minimalism on my bookshelf, and to encourage others to do the same. The website never grew in the way I dreamed it might, complete with a database of books and a way to track a given tome's journey through the community. I may one day resurrect this, but the fire and passion for the idea has long since passed.
Sir Curse
I played guitar for the Leeds-based Sir Curse for about five years, before the band went on indefinite hiatus at the start of 2023. We played a weird mish-mash of genres, and always worked extremely hard. The shows we played were an absolute blast, and I got to experience the backstage experience at a couple of really cool festivals as a result. A great time, and a project I miss a lot.
